Bike-O Recap

Over thirty orienteers came out to the Jodphur Loop last night for the Bike-O. The weather was good and the trails decent, though there were certainly a few good puddles and ponds out there. The courses were set on an experimental Bike-O map, which worked well. There were a lot of different route choices to make and, as the route setter, I’m hoping folks post on LiveLox so that we can see who went where. Pretty please?

On the Long course, Scott Patterson won the day with a time of 1:06:53, with Cory Smith and Trond Flagstad placing 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Julia Ditto was the lone woman riding the course. She reported great fun in the puddles.

The Short course had a few missed punch participants, but Frank Witmer celebrated his 50th birthday month by winning it. Three women followed behind him: Lindsey Flagstad, Agneta Kupilik, and Jamie Shearer. Lindsey ran the event as a Foot-O and was given permission to take some liberties with the trail restrictions, so Aggie is declared the Bike-O winner of the short for the women.

Five families rode the Family Bike-O course, along with a few others who were short on time. All five families finished the course on a variety of wheeled bike vehicles. Well done!

This event was put on by a group. While I built the map and set the courses, Dela and Ellery helped to place the controls. Diane and Rachael worked the tables with me and helped orienteers tape maps, plastic bags, and cardboard to their handlebars. Rachael and Todd picked up controls, heroically, into the dark of the night. Todd reported this morning that monstrously large moose defended the trails and controls in the dark. Watch out orienteers, especially with a Halloween-O to be rumored in the first part of October. Thank you all for a fun event.
