The 2024 Arctic Orienteering Sprint Series kicks off on Wednesday evening at Earthquake Park!

In sprint orienteering, the courses are shorter and the navigation is easier than traditional orienteering. The challenge comes from making lots of quick decisions. With that in mind, this week’s sprint courses are suitable for all ages and abilities.

  • Short Course: 1.6 km, 12 controls, suitable for everyone
  • “Long” Course: 2.8 km, 20 controls, suitable for almost everyone (Yellow course and above)

Conditions in Earthquake Park are fabulous right now. There are minimal bugs. Lots of water in the ponds, but the ground is dry.

The registration/start/finish area will be a short walk from the parking lot, at the big bend in the Coastal Trail in the middle of the park. Two minutes by dirt trail or six minutes by paved trail, both routes will be marked.  Look for the controls and signs. Starting in the middle of the park will make the courses more social and spectator-friendly. There are several controls within view of the start/finish area, which will provide opportunities to cheer or heckle your fellow competitors. This will be a great meet to bring friends to introduce them to the sport!
