Results for the Halloween-O

Thanks to all the brave souls who came out and faced not just the Halloween spooks, but also gusting winds and fast approaching darkness at the Halloween O. Eight teams and two individuals made their way around the Treat-O course, meeting many forest witches, warlocks, and spooks on their way. Rowan Shearer came in with the winning time of 21:30 comfortably outpacing the winning team of Team Long at 31:24. Many teams came in great costumes and were rewarded for their orienteering efforts and riddle solving prowess with an assortment of candies and prizes.

Six individuals and four teams braved the darkness to complete the Trick-O. As a bonus twist they were given riddles to answer at each of the controls. From this test I learned that people are not sure what has three feet but cannot stand without leaning (shoutout team ditto and Bill Spencer for correctly guessing a yardstick) and they don’t know what word has three consecutive double letters (Carolyn Stwertka was the only one to get Bookkeeper). Rowan certainly made us all laugh with his answer to “what gets bigger the more you take away?”. Instead of the standard answer of a hole he boldly chose the IRS.

Scott Patterson did come in with the top score (all the controls one minute over time) and tied with Bill Spencer for most riddles correct.

A big thanks to all the volunteers who froze in the rain and wind to made it happen: Gail Thompson, Tyler Henegen, Shelly Laws, Bill Spencer, Lindsey Kluber, Ariel Hippe, Joey Morrow and Steve McKeever. I have heard Lindsey’s ghostly hilltop figure was visible far and wide, and Shelly may have been too convincing as a scary forest witch leading other park users to give her a wide berth.
