So, another meet in Section 36… I promise it will be different this time. Yes, I really do, because this time, IT’S FOR UKRAINE!
This week, we (The Arctic Orienteering Club) will be partnering with the Robert Service High School Ukraine Club to put on a FUNdraising event at Bear Valley Elementary school!
We will have three courses:
- 0.8km super-sprint around Bear Valley Campus
- 1.9km sprint around Bear Valley Campus
- 4.9km Special Orienteering Operation (approachable for orange-red coursers) in Section 36
In this fight for survival and dominance against the wilderness and Russians (aka bears) you have the opportunity to purchase EXTRA AMMUNITION, that is, minutes that you can add on to other participants’ times. If, say, Dorn VanDommelen is 5 minutes ahead of you at the end of your race, you may donate $25 (5^2) to the Ukraine Club in order to increase his time to be the same as yours, letting you WIN! If Scott Patterson is 21 minutes ahead, you can donate $441 and beat him too! If you just want to egg someone with a time of 29:04 over the brink, pay $1 to shove them to 30:04. Ammunition points work on all courses, even the sprints. And all of the money you donate helps give humanitarian aid to soldiers and civilians affected by the “war” in Ukraine!
But even if you don’t bring money, don’t worry because on the long course, there is a BONUS control that will let you add two minutes onto the time of a participant of your choice… but don’t spend too long on it or else you might lose those minutes yourself.
Cross the treacherous minefields of fallen logs, wade the tank-sucking swamps, climb to a hill-top vantage point and navigate to the enemy position to claim your ultimate VICTORY! And then come back to the start to get some delicious snacks…
