Sunshine rains down on Kincaid as bikers seek the orange and white
On Wednesday evening, July 29th, nearly 50 folks, ranging in age from 3 to 74, enjoyed warm, dry and sunny conditions to participate in the club’s annual mountain bike orienteering event. Individuals and teams competed on one of three courses: Super Short (7 controls at 2.3 km), Short (14 controls at 5.6 km), and Long (23 controls at 9.8 km). Team S had the quickest time on the Super Short course, Team Aguilar, running on foot without bikes, was the fastest on the Short course, followed by Peter Johson and Jen Jolliff on bikes. And Scott Patterson was quickest finding the long course controls.
Sadly, the strict rules of the event were not followed by many participants, as can be seen on the LiveLox traces. The purple (No Crossing) line of the main road was crossed, riders took unmapped routes hither and yon, and all but one team on the long course crossed the open area with no mapped path at the north end of Beer Can Lake. Many riders (you know who you are!) would be disqualified were this event anything other than a fun outing, so please take the published results with a bit of skepticism.
Thanks to Luke Kiskaddon for assistance in setting the controls, to Peggy Kugel for fetching the treats and the maps, and assisting with the chaos of registration and results input, to Cory Smith for finding and resetting the misplaced #2 control (note to self: Start setting controls sometime well before the afternoon of the meet– it always takes longer than you think!), and to Peter Johnson and Todd Shearer for transporting the meet supplies to and from Kincaid.
