Kincaid Stadium Bike-O
On Wednesday, 7/29, we will have our annual Bike-O at Kincaid, with the registration & start at
the northeast corner of the stadium. As with Bike-O’s the last couple of years, this event will be
using the more official bike orienteering map, showing the Kincaid trails as “paths” and “tracks”,
with both types designated as Fast, Medium, Slow or Difficult riding. (Difficult may require bike
pushing at times!). All riders are required to stay on the paths and tracks, with no shortcuts
across open areas such as parking lots, soccer fields and the sledding hill, with one exception:
riders can traverse the stadium area in any direction. And crossing (or riding on) of the paved
Kincaid access road is prohibited, except at tunnels and bridges.
Below is a link to a legend and information for the Kincaid Bike-O map. It will show you how
the different paths and tracks are portrayed on the map. Please read it before you come.
There will be three courses: A Long, a Short and a Super Short (suitable for family rides). The
distance of the Long and Short may be a bit deceiving because there are a number of track and
path choices that may require fairly circuitous routes with choices between single-track and ski
trails.
Super Short: 2.3 km, 7 controls
Short: 5.6 km, 14 controls
Long: 9.8 km, 23 controls
NOTE: last year’s long and short courses were similar distances but had fewer controls. Long
course finishing times ranged from 70 to 130 minutes, and short course times ranged from 40
to 70 minutes. Please take that into account when planning when to arrive and which course
to ride, because we want everyone to finish by 9 pm.
Since it’s Kincaid, you’ll also need to be aware of big hills and depressions as you make your
choices. And the trails are likely pretty wet and slippery. Watch out for puddles, muddy areas,
and even a few pop-up ponds. Please be courteous of other park users, including
walkers, runners and other bikers. Slow down and give them plenty of space and
warning. NO COLLISIONS or CRASHES, please, by yourself, or with people or
wildlife.
And again: On these courses you may not travel off trail or take short cut trails unless
they are mapped. The only open area you can traverse off path is the stadium area.
The thick purple line on the park access road (Raspberry Rd) indicates that it may
not be crossed or ridden upon, except at the tunnels and bridge. Pay attention and
obey the direction of single-tracks, which are noted on the map. (Travel on Bolling Alley trail is
counter-clockwise on the day of the meet).
