Currently, the trails are so hard and icy that they are probably only ski-able through skilled use of klister and disregard of the safety of your skis; but the trails also won’t be harmed by people running over them.
At this time, without seeing how much (if any) snow Sunday brings, we recommend running or walking, not skiing. If you plan to run, safety demands that you wear some sort of ice gripper! We had no problem walking the trails without grippers this weekend.
This will be a sprint-O format, with a long course (5.7 k) and a short course (3.4 k). Control placements are all on or next to the trails; there will be lots of route choices, and the challenge will be making those choices quickly and well.
We anticipate fast runners could complete the long course in 25 – 30 minutes and the short course in about 15 minutes. Walkers and walk/runners would take two to three times as long.
Starts will be from 5 to 6:30 (sunset is at 8 and it will get dark about 9).
If enough snow falls on Sunday and Monday to make the trails groomable, then the event will become skis only; we will try to send out word through e-mail and on facebook if that happens.
Starts from 5PM to 6:30PM; You must be done by 8:30PM
Fees: $8 for adults; Kids under 18 are free thanks to the generous support of Healthy Futures
