Service Sprint Results

In part thanks to the wonderful running weather, over 50 people turned out to run this Wednesday’s orienteering course. This was the first meet I’ve (Oliver) ever directed and despite a few errors (like forgetting to put the descriptions on the maps), it all got through in the end. I’m thankful for the experience (and for all the people willing to be my guinea pigs), if you’re thinking about directing a meet next year make sure to show up to this year’s annual meeting in the near future and get signed up.

The short course was led by Sam & Eli with a team time of 12:16, followed closely by Annie Connelly with the winning women’s time of 18:14. The men’s trophy was snagged by Steve McKeever with a time of 37:12.

The competition heated up with the long course, where despite the neck and neck finish of Ian Moore, Ben Histand, and Allen Spangler, in 2-4th respectively, Sam Griffin brought home a dominant win with a 6+ minute lead over 2nd place with a time of 19:02. The men’s race for 6th place was hotly contested, with 4 runners finishing within 10 seconds of each other; congrats to Todd for edging out the others. Tamra Kornfield beat Julia Ditto by over a minute to secure the women’s trophy with a time of 30:54. Lost in the woods Wednesdays brought home the team prize with a time 52:15.

I want to thank all the people who helped make this meet possible, with my family stepping up to help me set controls and get ready in the limited time after school. Along with that I want to shout out to all the people on the backend, like Frank and Ian who helped with the website and made some last minute map changes. Thank you guys for everything, and I can’t wait to probably get dragged into hosting another meet next year!
