Traditional Meet @ Service High School – Kathy Memorial O on Wed July 9th

This Wednesday’s meet remembers Kathy Faryniarz, a long time orienteerer (and runner, musher, and many other things – her obituary is at https://adportal.adn.com/adportal/listingView.html?id=7662). She and Joyce put on many memorable meets!  She passed away unexpectedly last year, and we wanted to honor her memory.

We’ll be starting from the northeastern parking lot (between the sledding hill and the hockey rink);if you’re traveling east on Abbot Rd,  take the second or third turn into Service High.

We’ll have the usual five courses:

  • White: 2.0 km. 9 controls
  • Yellow: 2.5 km, 10 controls
  • Orange: 3.8 km, 11 controls
  • Green:  4.3 km , 12 controls
  • Red: 5.3 km, 16 controls

White, Yellow and Orange are in, around and between the ski and bike trails between Service HS and Hilltop; Green and Red add on some un-trailed area to the north. The courses are planned so you shouldn’t have to do any running across the fields to the north of the school building, or the parking lots.

Service High will be very busy this Wednesday evening; please be extra mindful while driving, parking, and using the requested spaces. The turf, both grassy fields, and the trails will be used for in-person events, and all lots are being used as overflow parking for these events, as well as events off-site.

Be especially alert when on singletrack bike trails – the sight lines are short there, so there’s not much warning of oncoming or overtaking bike traffic.
Hope to see you there!
