We’re back to In-person this week, with traditional orienteering meet at Mile 1.1 at Bicentennial. FNBP is one of our most popular areas, with a gorgeous mix of different trails, creeks, ponds and many other fabulous features off trail. There will be the standard set of courses ranging from White (beginner) to Red (advanced).
There will be training for available at this meet! If you are interested, meet at the start area at 5:15.
Here are some other notes:
Covid protocol (changed since the last in-person meet):
- Participants are not required to wear masks in the start/finish area or out on the course.
- However, the club does recommend wearing masks when within six feet of the unvaccinated. Be mindful that many younger children are not vaccinated.
- Volunteers working in the start/finish area will be wearing masks.
Other:
- The BLM asks that people please carpool or bike to the start to minimize parking congestion.
- The club recommends that everyone carry pepper spray and be alert to wildlife.
- Alaska’s other “state bird” is now plentiful, so come prepared!
- Orange runners should be able to keep their feet dry, with some fancy footwork at one location. Green and Red runners are more likely to feel some dampness down below, late in the courses.
- Orange, Green, and Red participants: please be careful when crossing Basher Drive.
- White, Yellow, and Orange participants: stay off the runway surface (magenta cross-hatched area on the maps).
- The BLM requires dogs to be on a leash at all times.
Think Fast, Think Fun, Think Orienteering!
