Regarding mosquitos…I have been experimenting with eating raw crushed garlic (mixed into butter & slathered on toast, etc) about an hour before I go out to walk a course. It does seem to help, though I still generally need to use bug dope too.
I did the medium north on Sun. 7/12. From #3, I chose to go west on the bike path and then south passed the ballfields, crossed the bridge and then passed #5. I continued on and thought the map showed a bridge across the creek close to the area where the construction is going on Northern Lights. Instead there were two logs and I don’t do well on logs so I forded the creek. I eventually came to the intersection where #4 was supposed to be, but it wasn’t there. I rechecked by taking it from another direction, and once again came to the same spot and figured it was gone. Went back and forded the creek again and made it back to #5. Rest of the the course was pretty straight forward. I came across a neighbor close to #6 and she said there’s been a black bear getting into the dumpster every night. I stopped a few times to take pictures of flowers. Lovely day to be out. Thanks so much.
Tried the yellow course. We got a bit waterlogged around #4 and #5. I think the water rose since the course was put together. We were also not terribly confident if we would come across a bridge whenever the path crossed Chester Creek. I recommend adding bridge symbols on the map next time. Those mosquitoes were intense! Anyways thanks for putting this together it was fun learning more about the Chester Creek trail area. It’s handy knowledge finding those small bridges.
Jumped into the Medium North course to have some fun in the marshes. Located 1 easily enough, but could not locate 2 at all. Wandered through the marsh and found 3, then back through but could not locate 4. After crossing the creek on my way to 5, I was able to locate it, then follow the long paved trail to 6, 7, and back over to where 8 should have been. It was also unable to be located. I am new to the sport, so may have just missed the flags, but it was fun either way!
Like others I could not find #4 on the Medium North course on Sunday afternoon. I was at the 90 degree 4 way junction of #4, but no sign of a control. Similarly, #8 was missing, right to the west of the bike path over N. Lights. But glad to see a new map, in the middle of town, with trails I’ve only been on in Winter. I especially liked #3, the tree! (but the control was on the south side, not the north side as indicated by the the clue – maybe someone moved it?)
P.S. checking back to see if anyone found #4 on the north medium course and realized I’d forgotten to mention #8 also missing. I saw it went I went out because I fumbled a bit on getting to #2. There were lots of people out on the Chester Creek trail Sunday afternoon, and I assumed since I’d seen it and knew where it was that someone had taken it before I got back.
I’ve had a few reports that controls 2, 4, and 8 on the north course (this impacts the long course, too) may all be missing now. Since the course is due to expire, they won’t be replaced. Sorry for the inconvenience. I think the lesson here is that virtual courses probably don’t last as long in an urban environment as they do out in the bush. No big surprise.
Thanks for setting up, I had no idea About that trail on the south side of the creek, now the mosquitoes and i are good friends there, I thought i just had lost all skills, but yes 4,2,8 must have been carried off by mosquitoes as well. See you at the next one and again thank you .
7/16: There may be a problem with the Virtual-O Feedback form. In attempting to enter a time for the U-MED meet today, I am only presented with the two course options for the current Bartlett meet, but none of the 4 courses for the U-MED meet.
Dorn has designed some fast, sprint-like coures on the new UMED map he is working on. Should be fun!
thanks Dorn great little gems controls in the hood!
I had a lot of fun on the Long course, great to see all the work Dorn has done!

Tried to do the short course on 7/12, but found controls 2-4 missing. Gave up after that. Have they been pulled. Joe Kurtak .

I had already changed form for Bartlett meet, sorry about that.
