Raspberry Parking Lot, Kincaid Park
Sixty plus people came out to Kincaid to celebrate the life of Lars Spurkland and enjoy an evening of Bike Orienteering. Lars was a long time orienteer and vibrant member of the ski, orienteering, and other communities in Alaska. He passed away last December at age 39 (obituary).
In the competition, Cory Smith blazed a wicked fast time of 1 hour 6 minutes and 13 seconds besting second place Mike Robinson by over 42 minutes on the long course. The long course turned out to be extra long, forcing several competitors to abandon for lack of time. On the short course, Steve Gruhn found that he was fastest without a bike when he narrowly defeated Tim Stone. Despite the extra long course, there were lots of happy faces at the end having enjoyed plenty of exercise and challenging route choices on the fabulous single track and ski trails at Kincaid.
