Spurkland, Jolliff Win Earthquake Park Map Debut

Earthquake Park

Over 100 people came out to Earthquake Park to experience the Arctic Orienteering Club’s first traditional meet on our new Earthquake Park map. Competitors braved a few raindrops, a few moose, and more than a few mosquitos while learning the nuances of this amazing new orienteering area. Praise was universal for the intricate terrain, interesting features, mild vegetation and the finely-detailed, accurate map. The number of mosquitos was also very impressive.

Lars Spurkland was the fastest competitor on any course, with a time of 39:58 on the most challenging 3.4 kilometer Red course. Jen Jolliff was the fastest woman on the Red course, finishing in 49:26. Also of note, the Red course had 24 starts, twice as many as any other course.

This meet was put on by Cory Smith, with help from Linda Smith. Thanks to Regan Sarwas for rescuing an injured competitor. Thanks to Resource Data, Inc for printing the maps.

If anyone is interested in getting a little more experience with this map, there are still some controls that need to be picked up. Contact Cory Smith if interested.
