Drunken Tree-O Results

50 individuals and 17 teams braved the intricate Earthquake Park terrain on Wednesday evening, May 13. Wildlife sightings included a pair of curious moose near the start and a steady stream of tourists. The lack of vegetation created excellent sight lines and open off-trail running. High water levels made for tricky map reading. Most participants stayed dried, while a few bold souls selected watery shortcuts to shave precious time. The biggest story of the night was the drunk and malfunctioning electronic timing system. Participants arriving early to the event relied on the “classic” card and punch system. Dorn Van Dommelen was the hero of the evening: he sprang to action and loaded the e-punch timing system to his phone. All e-punch users should thank Dorn for his efforts.

Red course winners were Scott “Unstoppable” Patterson (0:48:54) for the men, Jen “Persistant” Jolliff (1:18:53) for the women and Trond & Lindsey “Still tired from McHugh” Flagstad for the team.

Green course winners were Bill “Keep on truckin” Spencer (1:02:55) for the men, Eeva “Flying Finn” Latsou (1:18:32) for the women and George & Molly “Dynamic Duo” Vaughan (1:30:13) for the team.

A huge thanks to the Hanna-Stone-Shearer clans for course design, event set-up and control pick-up.

Drunken Tree-O

The Arctic Orienteering club is hosting a traditional orienteering meet at Earthquake Park on Wednesday, May 13. The intricate terrain presents an excellent opportunity to build and test navigation skills in a compact area. Early season timing means sight lines and off-trail travel are excellent. Water levels in the ponds and streams are very high … Read more

McHugh Creek Results

Nearly 70 orienteers started the first traditional meet of the season at McHugh Creek. Two bears and a few moose sighted and maybe they also enjoyed fun and challenging courses, snow-free terrain, and gorgeous views of the inlet. We had some incredible close races this evening with a tie on the Red course between Ian … Read more
