Suburbi-O Results

It was a rainy night, but a lot of orienteers young, old, new and seasoned came out to run the courses. Allan Spangler won the day by finishing first in both longer sprints for the men. Jamie Shearer won for the women by winning the College Village Sprint by just enough to edge out Jen Jolliff, who came in second in both races, just behind Lindsey Flagstad in the Rogers Park race. Last night’s event will definitely shake up the standings for the sprint championship. Look for an update and position starts next week.

There were so many teams participating last night; this was a real neighborhood event. Check out the full results below.

I have a lot of people to thank. Julia Ditto was my trusty assistant meet director. She worked with me on the courses and suggested key edits to the map. She placed controls in sprinkles and then pulled controls in the pouring rain. And, she ran the table as I started the College Village race. It is not hyperbole to say that this event would not have taken place without her.

Last night, Max Romey pitched in with registration, Diane Van Dommelen got the snacks, and Todd Shearer raced around on his bike delivering items and keeping me posted at my lonely start station.

Many Rogers Park and College Village neighbors and friends let us use their property for controls. No one turned down my request!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints generously let us use their parking lot for the start and finish area. The Al Aska Shriners let me set up shop under their overhang for the College Village start. They also allowed us to hang a control on their property as did Turkish Delight and Northern Lights Imaging. Rogers Park Elementary School helpfully allowed us to post a number of controls on their property.

It was a very different venue/map than we usually use. Did you like it? The map is much more extensive and could be used for sprints in the future. Drop me a note if you think the club should stick with it in the future.
