Sprint Series Update

Three sprint events have now been completed and eighteen orienteers have participated in at least two events to qualify for the pursuit sprint on September 24th at UAA!

The current standings are listed below. The time given after each name is the time the orienteer would start, after our current leader in the final sprint, if it were held today. Times are normalized against the “super orienteer” time for each race and then normalized against all the other races. The best two normalized times for each orienteer are the ones that are counted. That’s a lot of normalization! Please let me know what I’ve gotten wrong: number of races, age (I guessed on a bunch of them), sex, who knows? The spreadsheet I’m working off is available by contacting me and it’s truly a work in progress.

On the final pursuit day we’ll likely have a runoff of the top three to five orienteers for both sexes (sadly, Springer and Brian are out this year – Springer’s off at college – the bum – and Brian is our final meet director). Then we’ll have a second wave of another five or six orienteers. Everyone else will run in the open time but will still be able to win their classes, which are done by ages.

Please note that in the coming sprint, and last qualifier, to be held on Wednesday, September 10th, there will be two sprints on the same night so some of our star orienteers can still qualify!
