Two Events This Week!

Reveal Party for New FNBP Map @ Cynosure Brewing

When: 5:30pm Tuesday June 11th

Where: Cynosure Brewing

Our mappers led by Dorn Van Dommelen and Ian Moore have been putting in countless hours into creating a new orienteering map for all of FNBP. Join us to celebrate this huge accomplishment and say thank you to our awesome mappers!

  • Enjoy a libation and some tasty food (there will be a taco truck that evening)
  • See a preview of the new map
  • Learn what goes into creating and maintaining our orienteering maps
  • Chat with our mappers and lavish them with praise or better yet buy them a beer

The All New FNBP-O

When: 5:00pm to 9:00pm Wednesday June 12th

Where: North Bivouac Trailhead at Mile 2.2 of the Campbell Airstrip Road

Come and enjoy Classic Long races on the All New Far North Bicentennial Park (FNBP) Map. This is a great way to test the new map and the mappers would love your feedback. We hope that the improved (or at least more current) mapping will make it easier to select the best route. You may still get stuck in a snarl of Devil’s Club, but hopefully it will be correctly mapped.

There will be 5 courses:

  • White: 2.0km, 45m climb, 6 controls
  • Yellow: 2.7km, 50m climb, 6 controls
  • Orange: 4.0km, 80m climb, 12 controls
  • Green: 5.1km, 90m climb, 13 controls
  • Red: 6.3km, 115m climb, 17 controls

Course Setter Notes:

  • The mosquitos have hatched, so run fast or bring your bug dope!
  • Vegetation is in full bloom reducing visibility and making it harder to see your footing when off trail.
  • There is still some un-mapped spring melt water in some depressions/clearings.
  • The rocks are often covered in moss and vegetation making them look more like root stocks or small knolls from a distance.
