56 orienteers braved the rainy, windy weather on Saturday in Bird Valley. The courses were long, in some places snowy, and more than a bit brushy, but there were few complaints and a lot of enthusiasm for this rarely used map.

Congratulations to Ian Moore and Jen Jolliff, the men’s and women’s winners on the red course. 13 orienteers braved this course and did famously. On the Green, Brian Kirchner was the first man to finish. The Orange was won by Oliver Rosier, with Carolyn Stwertka winning the women’s category. White and Yellow courses were not as popular as usual, but Annette Iverson finished the Yellow in first and Team Eastman won the White.

Many thanks to Diane Van Dommelen for acting as my assistant meet director, buying the snacks, helping with gear, standing in the cold for hours and helping me pull controls. Steve Gruhn vetted the courses and made excellent suggestions. I learned a great deal from his comments. Lexi Hill helped to place a last minute control. Last, but not least, many thanks to Regan Sarwas. Not only does he keep our e-punch system running, but he also posts our times and uploads courses to LiveLox. If you haven’t checked out LiveLox before, do so. Diane and I had a tremendous time virtually rooting for all of the orienteers on the red course who loaded their tracks.
