Results for Super Big Bike-O

The spectacular and sunny fall weather tempted 34 hardy participants to come out and try the Super Big Bike-O, a “Tour of Anchorage” bike orienteering event using five different base maps: Glen Alps / Hemlock Knob, Far North Bicentennial Park, UMED district, Earthquake Park and Kincaid. Racers on the (not-so) Short and Long courses started near Hilltop Ski Area and finished at the Kincaid Chalet. Twelve racers chose the Super Long course, attempting to find 48 controls between the start at Glen Alps and the Kincaid finish. The short course had 26 controls, the long course 35.

All the courses proved to be longer, both in time and distance, than anticipated by everyone, with more than a third of the racers finishing at Kincaid without reaching all the controls. The first racer to finish with all controls was Dave Evans on the long course, nearly 3-1/2 hours after he started. The last finisher was Mike Robinson, arriving at Kincaid just before 8 pm, nearly 6 hours after he started on the Super-Long course. Scott Patterson was the fastest of the three finishers on the Super Long course, and Dave Evans and Jenn Joliff were the fastest man and woman respectively on the Long course. Jamie and Nicholas Shearer were the fastest team on the Short course and the trio of Springer Moore, Maxwell Richardson and Lars Lunoe was the fastest team on the Long course.
