Last week, Arctic Orienteering Club partnered with UAA to put on an Orienteering Camp for 26 kids age 10-15. Jen Jolliff, Ian Moore, and Dorn Van Dommelen, and Springer Moore (assisted by Vebjorn Flagstad, Jane Malouf, and Iona Snyder) used a wide variety of classroom exercises, creative games, and outdoor training courses to prepare campers for the daily timed orienteering events they put on at UAA, APU, and Russian Jack Park. Including Dorn’s Wednesday evening Gen-O we put on eleven orienteering events, including 31 separate courses! For the final two races, we were also joined by ten other O-club volunteers and parents who shadowed the Junior orienteers as they showed off their navigational skills.
