Orienteering at Earthquake Park

The Arctic Orienteering Club will be hosting a traditional orienteering meet at Earthquake Park on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Come and start anytime between 5pm and 7pm (we ask that you be done by 8pm, so we can get the controls picked up before bedtime 😁).

Earthquake Park is a small well bounded venue with lots of handrails and catching features. The map is very detailed with lots of intricate terrain and water bodies to help you navigate with confidence. Of course if you go to fast or lose focus, the details can cause extra confusion. If this happens, just backup to your last well known location and try again!

We will offer the following courses:

  • Red (advanced): 4.1km, 21 controls
  • Green: 3.7km, 19 controls
  • Orange: 2.7km, 19 controls
  • Yellow: 2.3km, 13 controls
  • White (novice): 1.7km, 11 controls

This event will be the 5th of 7 events in our season points competition. Come out and improve your standing.

Notes from the course setter:

  • Most of the trails are dry now, but there is still more water than usual in the many water bodies and depressions.
  • The mosquitos are out in force 🙁. Sorry.
  • There were no moose or homeless camps spotted in the park. 🤞
  • On the advanced courses, the control flags may be lowish. You might need to be standing in/on the feature to see the control flag. Hint: read your clue sheet!
  • On the advanced courses, there are controls on similar adjacent features. Hint: compare the control id with your clue sheet and do not assume the course setter made a mistake.
