Arctic orienteering hosted seven high schools and the community to a trail running/map event called orienteering. Local running teams divided their athletes into small groups that traveled the course, trying to find controls (flags) throughout the trail system. Max score was 780 and several high school teams attained that score, including two Colony teams, a South team and the East high coaches. South’s athletes showed off their navigation skills by coming up with the highest average points collected for all the teams.
As for the community, two men cleared all 780 points on the course, with Scott Patterson just edging Brian Kirchner in time. The women’s winner was Dela Gray with 600 points, with Shelly Laws just behind with 550 pts. Community team winners were Jamie and Rowan Shearer. They led 12 teams to victory.
