Cool, cloudy, rainless weather prevailed as a total of 52 participants competed on 5 courses, white through red, at the edge of the Scenic Foothills neighborhood. There were 10 teams and 23 competing solo. Courses straddled the interface of Far North Bicentennial Park and JBER, weaving through some challenging vegetation and crossing the tank trail, numerous game paths, and many newly-mapped trails. Despite seeing both a grizzly bear and bull moose while hanging controls, no wildlife sightings were reported by participants.

On the red course (20 controls, 6.4 km), Ian Moore led the men’s field in 1:11:35 and Jen Jolliff was the first women’s finisher in 1:56:27. In the more crowded field on the orange course (14 controls, 4.4 km), Brian Durrell was the first men’s finisher in 1:18:23 and Lexi Hill led the women in 1:45:03.

Thank you to Cody Priest and Dela Grey for help with set-up and at the registration table. Thanks to many who helped haul equipment back to my car from the start area. Thank you to Peter & Kurtis Brumbaugh, Karen Bronga, and Cody Priest for each retrieving some deep controls.
