Help Build the New Permanent Orienteering Course at Ruth Arcand Park!

Some of you may know that Anchorage is getting a new permanent orienteering course at Ruth Arcand Park! This new course will be the product of a lot of hard work by a young man named Owen Nordstrom who is building the course as his Eagle Scout project. He’s spent hours of time planning and getting approvals and has worked closely with the club’s board.

Donate Time
And, now, he’s ready to build the course and needs volunteer help. In addition to his troop, Troop 209, he’d love to have interested orienteers lend a hand.

Installation of the 18 control posts will take place on July 27th and 29th (Tuesday and Thursday) from 5:30-8:00pm. Owen requests that volunteers bring shovels, post-hole diggers, iron bars, wheel barrows, and levels. Meet at the parking lot near the entrance of the park if you have time to chip in.

Donate Money
Owen also has to raise funds to cover $850-950 in costs for materials and equipment rental, see his project statement below. Please consider making a donation to the club to support his project. Donations are tax deductible.

Project Statement

I am a boy scout working on my Eagle Project with the Arctic Orienteering Club to install a permanent orienteering course at Ruth Arcand Park (Anchorage) for the community’s year-round use. Three self-timed courses, available via QR code on the Club’s website, will utilize 19-control points distributed around the park.

I have made many wonderful memories orienteering with family and friends in the great Alaskan outdoors. I hope that this project will encourage others to enjoy the sport here as well.

Any donations to the project would be very appreciated!

Thank you for your support,

Owen Nordstrom
