In 2019, the club held a sprint series and with the return of in-person meets, we are on again! In the coming months the club will hold a total of five four sprint events. Anyone wanting to participate in the sprint series needs to complete two of the first four three events. The final sprint will be held as a “pursuit” event, based on times from the previous meets.
In a pursuit event, the runner in each age category with the best times will start first and the other runners will start after the first runner, based on their times. (So, for example, runner #2 might start 20 seconds after, runner #3, 45 seconds after, etc. – timing will be determined by a semi-scientific system which normalizes each of the events.) The first across the finish line wins the race.
Unlike the traditional meets, awards will be given to the winner of each age/sex category:
Junior Boys/Junior Girls (participants will run the sprint medium courses if available, if not then short courses)
Men 19-29/Women 18-29 (participants will run the long courses)
Men 30-39/Women 30-39 (participants will run the long courses)
Men 40-49/Women 40-49 (participants will run the long courses)
Men 50-59/Women 50-59 (participants will run the long courses)
Senior Men/Senior Women (participants will run the long courses – last time they were supposed to run the short courses but rebelled and all ran long!)
