  1. we(joyce and I) bailed couldnt get 4 on medium but kept going for fun getting the next 2 controls
ran into ian who said he could find rock on * but great interesting course tkx

  2. I think the markers for Control #4 on the long course (#8 on the medium) are missing. Ian and I both searched for a long time after finding the boulder, but didn’t see the markers anywhere nearby.

  3. I saw a fair amount of bear scat on the Richter Link, but no bears. Same for the area around #8; I found at least 4-6 boulders of varying sizes, but no flags. Also found scat in the general vicinity of #8, along with a bear den (I believe) – where I searched quite a while. Also, for #7 on the medium course I found flags with #142 on them (same spot as #5 on the long course). I did not see any controls numbered 142 on the map pages. Am I missing something? I love these trails, and in going from #3 to #4 on the short course, I realized it was easier this time to find my way onto the main path. Last time I missed it because I think I had gone onto a side trail and I remember it being way wetter in there with more downed trees back in May.

    • Sorry for the confusion! You are correct that #142 is at #7 Medium. I’m not sure how I got it wrong on the clue sheet. I’ve fixed it now. And the flags at #8 have been replaced. Glad you found the right boulder. I’m not familiar with these trails by name, but on the lighted trail going back to Hillside this evening it looked like one bear had the runs.

  4. Fun surprise! Regarding #2 on the Short Course; initially I went too far west, and then south (from where the control really was) but had I not done that I would not have seen the awesome rusty mariachi band sculpture just outside a homeowners fence. I highly recommend it! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Yes, we discovered that sculpture while out scouting control locations. Really impressive. Maybe we should have chosen the fence corner for the control instead of the pit!

  5. I enjoyed the short course a lot; saw no wildlife, but Shadow enjoyed chasing a squirrel. The pit was interesting at control #2. A long time ago, before Trailside and the newer subdivision went in, there were some nice trails back in that area. I remember Dan Ellsworth set up a meet with controls in there. I hope to go back Sunday or Monday and do all or part of the medium course. Thanks so much, Dela.

    • Giselle, we initially wanted to use the nature area near Trailside, but given all the fenced areas, it just didn’t fit into the courses well, so we moved to the pit, which I almost avoided due to teenager activity, but has turned out to be popular. ๐Ÿ™‚ I replaced the flags at Medium #8 so that should no longer be an issue. Glad you’re doing more than one course, since we have the extra time!

  6. About as much fun as you can have thrashing through the deadfall and brush! ๐Ÿ™‚
If there is an optimal route between 3, 4, and 5, I sure didn’t find it!
Thanks again for setting this up!

  7. Good job, Dela. Very challenging course testing our skills. The small trail off the bog trail to #4 got indistinct, and we had trouble mucking thru the brush to find it, and we didnt. The rock at #3 was a good find, lots of deadfall to go around.

    • When we set the course, we went nearly straight across from 3 to 4, but when we picked up controls tonight, we took that indistinct trail off the bog trail and found it fairly easy to follow until just before the small hill, but by then we could sort of see the bigger hill to the NE so worked our way over right to it. But when we turned around to come back out that way we had trouble finding the trail again and just forged our way south and slightly west until we finally regained the trail just before the intersection with the bog trail. Guess it’s mapped indistinct for good reason!
