Long Lake Trailhead, Matanuska Lake State Recreation Area
46 people came out to the Mat Su Greenbelt’s Long Lake Trailhead, to combine for 34 starts in an early season training meet. The weather stayed good, thorny bushes were there (but not everywhere), and orienteers enjoyed being back on a map (Crevasse Moraine) we haven’t used in a while.
Lorena Knapp was meet director, Lexi Hill was assistant, and both of them cadged various folks, including Anjanette Steer to help on the long days spent wandering the area. We didn’t expect the crowd so we were short of people to man the snack table – but orienteers who had finished jumped in and made sure the food was out.
Kudos to everyone who made the drive from Anchorage on a weeknight!
Because our meet was permitted as a non-competitive backcountry event, the results below are presented by course, but not split into men, women and teams, and not assigned places.
