After more than 55 years of running, hiking, biking and skiing the trails and hills of southcentral Alaska, I’m thrilled when orienteering takes me to a new trail I haven’t been on, a patch of woods I’ve never been in, or a hilltop I haven’t climbed. I’m happy to help others experience that same excitement and joy. And to feel that great sense of accomplishment when a control is finally FOUND!
Vice President of Equipment
The Vice President of Equipment shall store, care for and monitor the Club’s equipment, including providing forms and supplies for Club functions.
Regan Sarwas

Regan became hooked on orienteering in 2011. Being an engineer and a computer programmer, he enjoys the intellectual challenge of orienteering. It is also nice that he has a lot of room for improvement, despite the fact that his body is slowing down.
Vice President of Events
The Vice President of Events shall propose a schedule of events, secure permission from land owners, designate meet directors for events, and coordinate assistance and training for meet directors.
Springer Moore

Vice President of Mapping
The Vice President of Mapping shall identify and review locations suitable for Club events and coordinate the preparation of suitable maps.
Dorn Van Dommelen

I have been a cartophile since I was a boy, collecting maps and dreaming of exploring them. That love of maps led me to a love of the outdoors. I grew up as a hiker and now love to explore Alaska, the place I’ve called home for 25 years, by foot and ski. I am a geography professor at UAA and, as an orienteer, have thrown myself into orienteering cartography.
Vice President of Media
The Vice President of Media shall promote the Club and specific events, including disseminating news of Club activities (newspaper and website), and contacting potential sponsors for donations.
Art Harmon

Vice President of Membership
The Vice President of Membership shall maintain an accurate and current list of members and interested non-members, and shall notify those whose membership has expired.

Scott Patterson

Scott Patterson is a two time winter Olympian, current member of the US Cross Country Ski Team, and enthusiastic mountain adventurer. He enjoys how orienteering combines three of his favorite activities: competition, intellectual stimulation, and self-inflicted possibly lost adventures through spiky plants and deep puddles. Wednesday evening events are a highlight of his week during the summer. Outside of training, Scott works as a mechanical engineer in Anchorage.

I grew up in WA, spent a decade in AK before living for four years each in Scotland and Trinidad, then moving back “home” in 2018 with two kids in tow. My family started orienteering in 2019 as another way to play outdoors and we were instantly hooked. I really enjoy how orienteering takes me to little pockets in the woods that I might not find on my own and often rewards working smarter, not harder.
